Memorial Day, 2011 is definitely a day to remember. The birding day started with some great looks at the Blue Grosbeak, Grasshopper Sparrows and other nice birds at Crane WMA in Falmouth. I then was fortunate enough to run into Matt Malin who got a call from Barry Burden that his son (Damon Burden) had just seen the Swallow-tailed Kite at Jenkins Pond - just a few minutes from where we were standing!

We didn't waste any time getting down there and quickly located the kite in a dead tree way on the other side of the pond. On my second digiscope shot it took off and disappeared from view. After a bit a Kite appeared; but it turned out to be a Mississippi!

Both the Swallow-tailed and up to 4 Mississippi Kites would appear at the pond from time to time. Later in the afternoon Matt saw a kettle with 9 Mississippi and 1 Swallow-tailed Kite.
